Saltwater figures are the 2026-27 component prices on ADCNR’s license packages page. ADCNR’s saltwater license page still shows a fee schedule dated August 29, 2025 with lower numbers ($30.05 resident annual); we use the newer 2026-27 figures. Freshwater nonresident trip and public-lake prices are as listed on the ADCNR nonresident page on November 5, 2026; the page does not print a license year beside them.
Who does not need a license: anglers under 16 (resident or not), Alabama residents 65 and older, and residents bank-fishing with hook and line in their own county of residence (carry proof of residency). Residents 16 and up who skip the saltwater license (65+, lifetime holders, pier-license anglers) still have to register in the free saltwater angler registry. Full list on ADCNR’s exemptions page.
Buy an Alabama Fishing License Online
ADCNR moved license sales to a new system, MyOutdoorAlabama.com, in 2026. You can reach it from outdooralabama.com or through the Outdoor AL app. The steps, per ADCNR’s MyOutdoorAlabama FAQ and license information page:
- Log in or create an account. Bought a license before? Log in with your permanent Conservation ID, printed on any past license and shown in the Outdoor AL app, then confirm your contact details. New buyers create an account with a valid email address. Each person needs their own account.
- Have your ID and Social Security number ready.State and federal law require an SSN for every license purchase. Residency is set by your driver’s license or non-driver ID card.
- Pick freshwater, saltwater or both. Not sure which water you are on? Check ADCNR’s saltwater/freshwater boundary map. Add the $10 reef fish endorsement if you will keep red snapper or other Gulf reef fish.
- Enter payment.Saved cards from the old system did not carry over, so enter your card on the first purchase. An “Auto-Renew” switch at checkout renews the license each year.
- Carry the license. Log in to the Outdoor AL app on Wi-Fi or cell data so the license caches for offline display. ADCNR also recommends carrying a printed copy.
Prefer a counter? Any ADCNR license agent sells the same licenses; bring your driver’s license if you are over 16. License sales support (Tyler Technologies, 24/7): 1-888-848-6887.
Alabama Non-Resident Fishing License
Nonresidents 16 and older need a license for both fresh and salt water. Reciprocal agreements set different prices for residents of some neighboring states, which is why Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida anglers pay different amounts.
| Nonresident license | Price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Freshwater annual (all states except LA, MS) | $68.20 | ADCNR |
| Freshwater annual, Louisiana resident | $70.60 | ADCNR |
| Freshwater annual, Mississippi resident | $75.42 | ADCNR |
| Freshwater 7-day trip | $38.05 | ADCNR |
| Saltwater annual (all other states) | $66.80 | ADCNR |
| Saltwater 7-day trip (all other states) | $36.65 | ADCNR |
| Saltwater pier annual | $14.85 | ADCNR |
Full-time students aged 17-23 at a certified Alabama college can buy at the resident rate. Nonresidents cannot buy a lifetime license (ADCNR lists lifetime licenses as “Alabama residents only”).
Alabama Freshwater Fishing License
The resident annual freshwater license is $17.45 and is the standard license for Alabama’s reservoirs and rivers. It includes the $14.30 Wildlife Heritage License at no extra charge. ADCNR lists no resident trip license; the shortest resident option is the $7.80 daily permit, which only works on state-owned county public fishing lakes, not on the big reservoirs. Discounted resident licenses exist for 100% physically disabled residents ($3.55) and 20%-disabled veterans ($3.65). Source: ADCNR resident freshwater licenses.
Alabama Saltwater Fishing License
You need a saltwater license in any water ADCNR maps as salt on its saltwater/freshwater boundary map; a cheaper pier-only license is sold for pier anglers. Residents pay $30.90 a year or $12.65 for a 7-day trip; most nonresidents pay $66.80 or $36.65. Keeping Gulf reef fish such as red snapper takes the $10 reef fish endorsement on top. Anyone 16 or older fishing salt water without an annual license (seniors, lifetime holders, pier anglers) must still sign up for the free saltwater angler registry. Alabama Lifetime Fishing License
Lifetime freshwater, saltwater and combination licenses are sold to Alabama residents only and stay valid for life even if you later move out of state. Prices depend on age and go up every September 1. Children can hold one; see the application rules below.
| Lifetime license, by age | Freshwater | Saltwater |
|---|---|---|
| Under 2 | TODO: 2026-27 price not yet verified | TODO: 2026-27 price not yet verified |
| Ages 2-11 | TODO: 2026-27 price not yet verified | TODO: 2026-27 price not yet verified |
| Ages 12 and up | TODO: 2026-27 price not yet verified | TODO: 2026-27 price not yet verified |
| Optional senior lifetime (hunting + fresh + salt) | $35.00 | $35.00 (same license) |
ADCNR does not print its 2026-27 lifetime price table on the resident lifetime licenses page, so we have left these cells blank rather than guess. The $35.00 optional senior lifetime price is from the resident freshwater page.
Who qualifies and how to apply: bona fide Alabama residents with a valid driver’s license can apply at a county probate office or online. Applicants without a driver’s license, and minors under 16, need an application with residency documents. ADCNR’s license section takes calls at (334) 242-3465. Lifetime holders still pay the daily permit (currently $3) to fish state public fishing lakes and still have to register in the saltwater angler registry.
Alabama Fishing License App
ADCNR’s official app is Outdoor AL, on Google Play and the App Store. It replaced the old Outdoor Alabama Pocket Ranger app. Per ADCNR’s mobile apps page, it lets you:
- Keep and display your fishing license on your phone
- See daily possession, bag and creel limits
- Report red snapper harvests
- Check moon phases and feeding times
Open the app once on Wi-Fi or cell data after buying so the license is saved for offline use on the water. App support (Tyler Technologies, 24/7): 1-866-246-9581.
